The Rich kids

Posted by admin on Thursday Jul 15, 2010 Under General knowledge

The Rich Kids were formed by Glen Matlock (vocals / bass guitar) after he left the Sex Pistols, and fronted by Glaswegian Midge Ure (vocals / guitars / keyboards) (formerly of Slik and PVC2). Rusty Egan (drums) and Steve New (vocals / guitars), briefly second guitarist for the Sex Pistols and later PiL, completed the line-up.  An early line-up in 1977 was formed by New and Egan on their same instruments and Matlock on lead vocals and bass, and The Clash’s Mick Jones on guitar. Midge Ure saw a little interest early 1977 in the group and continued with his Slik transformed to punkier PVC2 members, which split up in September 1977. Ure left his Slik/PVC2 bandmates and immediately moved to London and joined The Rich Kids, and Jones dropped out and continued with The Clash.

The Rich Kids were amongst the foremost British exponents of the power pop style, blending influences from 1960s acts such as The Small Faces and The Who with more recent punk rock sounds. They put out one album, Ghosts Of Princes In Towers (produced by Mick Ronson), and three singles during their existence, from March 1977 to December 1978 (although the official announcement of their disbanding was not made until mid 1979). At their Lyceum show in spring 1978 Ronson played guitar and Ian McLagan (ex-Faces) played keyboards.

Their material did not have commercial success (like the first single “Rich Kids”) and the group announced their official separation in 1979. Several performances, though, were featured in the 1980 film, D.O.A..

Matlock and New went on to tour with Iggy Pop, while Egan and Ure formed a band called The Misfits (not the American hardcore punk band) and, after short spells with The Skids and Thin Lizzy, respectively, reunited in Visage.[1] In April 1979, Ure joined Ultravox.[1]

With only one single making the Top 40 in the UK Singles Chart,[2] the Rich Kids join the list of one-hit wonders; a list that includes other UK punk or new wave acts such as John Cooper Clarke, Jilted John, 999, the Radio Stars, and The Vibrators.

On 7 January 2010, the band played a one-off reunion concert at The O2 Academy Islington, London in aid of Steve New. Steve New lost a brave battle with cancer on 24 May.

Animal Alphabet

A’s For the Antelope always on view
Which Aiden saw,
When he went to the zoo.

B Was the bear that came up at a run
When Benjamin threw him
A very nice bun.

C’s For the camel;
“Poor thing, what a lump!”
Was what Chloe said
When she looked at his hump.

D’s For the deer with the soft
pretty eyes;
Dylan found them so tame
He had quite a surprise.

E Was the elephant ;
sixpence a ride but
Emma soon found that
you can’t sit astride!

F Was the fox very crafty and sly,
Watching Faith from his den
with a cunning old eye.

G’s The giraffe which made
Grace smile;
She was sure with his neck,
She could see quite a mile.

H Was the hippo asleep in his pool,
Hannah thought it an excellent
way to keep cool.

I Was the Ibex, a kind of wild goat.
Isabella thought his horns nasty,
But liked his fine coat.

J Was the Jaguar like a big cat,
But Jacob didn’t think
He would like him to pat!

K Was the kangaroo off with a bound;
A fine way, thought Kaylee,
To get over the ground.

L’s For the lions; they made
such a fierce noise
Lily wished she were safety
At home with the boys.

M’s For the monkeys,
all patter and chatter,
But Matthew couldn’t tell
What on earth was the matter.

N’s For the Nilgai which jumped
off a rock;
He took such a leap that
Natalie had quite a shock.

O’s For the ostrich,
A wise-looking bird,
But Olivia remembered
the tales she had heard.

P’s For the parrot
that had lots to say,
and tried to peck Paul,
As he passed by that way.

Q’s For the Quagga
Which Quentin found tame;
He is quite like a Zebra,
with stripes and a mane.

R Is the Rhino,
A fierce-looking beast;
Ryan watched him with awe
In the midst of a feast.

S Is the snake which
Sophia found asleep;
He was shiny and slimy
and made her flesh creep.

T’s For the Tiger
that gave Tim a fright;
He was horribly scared
Lest they got out at night.

For U (That’s the Unicorn)
Nobody looks;
As Ursula can tell you,
He’s only in books.

V’s For the Vulture,
A big bird of prey,
Victoria saw him
and soon ran away!

W’s For the Wolf
Lying flat on the ground,
Though when William
came near he was
up with a bound.

X Just looks on
and has nothing to do,
There’s no creature
That claims him
Through-out the whole Zoo.

Y Is the Yak;
He’s worthy of note;
Yasmine was amazed
at his long shaggy coat.

Z’s For the Zebra
That kept Zoe busy,
She counted his stripes
till she felt she was dizzy.

Kelty Kids Baby Carrier

Posted by admin on Thursday Jul 15, 2010 Under General knowledge

Baby carriers have been around in one shape or another since the beginning of human history. Creative parents have designed ways to carry their baby – ranging from fabric slings to crude packs fashioned from grass. Today, these makeshift baby carriers are a thing of the past, as technology and innovative design ideas take child transportation to a whole new level. Lightweight metals, durable fabrics, and superior functionality have transformed the antiquated baby carrier your parents used into a wide range of baby slings, carriers, and backpacks that fit just about any lifestyle.

How to Choose a Baby Carrier?

1. Consider Your Physical Needs:
Decide who will be using the carrier most frequently. The type of carrier you choose will depend on what type of activities you plan on doing while carrying your baby and how much weight you can lift with ease. Men often find it easier to use outward-facing frontpacks or backpacks while many mothers prefer slings or inward-facing frontpacks for their ease in and out of the house.

Choose a comfortable carrier. No matter what type of carrier you select, try to take it for a test run around the store–either with your baby or with a facsimile (doll). The baby carrier’s cloth should be soft and non-chafing, the framework should be light enough to carry easily and the straps and baby seat should be padded.

Select a carrier that will accommodate your infant’s growth, both in it’s ability to carry additional weight and in its ability to adjust to new positions. Slings tend to be very flexible and accommodating, but other baby carriers typically have a upper weight limit and may not adjust to allow for a baby who can sit up or hold up her head.

2. Select the Type of Carrier:
Consider a baby sling if you have a premature infant and/or are breastfeeding. The sling is the most ancient form of a baby carrier. It allows a baby to be cuddled close to your body in a variety of different positions, provides privacy for public feedings and can be adjusted to fit even the smallest of babies. A premature infant can benefit greatly from the way a sling swaddles tightly, moves with the rhythm of your body and gives her a chance to be soother by the sound of your heartbeat.

Choose a frontpack for your older baby. Though this type of carrier can be used to hold small babies, it’s best suited to for an infant who can hold his head up independently. A frontpack also gives a baby a variety of different views of the world. He can be turned inward toward your chest while sleeping or fussy or face the world head-on when you carry him with his back to your belly.

Invest in a backpack carrier if your family is active and outdoorsy. The carriers are designed for babies who can sit up without assistance. They have a lightweight, tubular framework with a fabric seat in which your baby can sit upon your shoulders. Many backpack carriers are designed to be used for hikes and have small storage spaces for snacks and other baby supplies.

Pottery Barn Baby Blankets

Posted by admin on Thursday Jul 15, 2010 Under General knowledge

Baby gifts, like any other gifts, are sometimes hard to choose. A baby blanket is a wonderful gift to give to the little one. Not only will the child enjoy it while they are younger, but it is a sweet, sentimental item that he can hold onto for a lifetime.

Using blankets in a baby’s bed presents the risk of suffocation and Sudden Infant Death Syndome (SIDS). However, there are ways to reduce the risks of suffocation by choosing specific types of blankets, or even purchasing alternatives to blankets for baby.

How to Know When a Baby can Sleep With a Blanket ?

Step 1
Consider using a blanket when the baby is a year old. At this age, the baby can use her hands to get the blanket away from her face if it happens to ride up there, and the risk of death from SIDS decreases dramatically.

Step 2
Use a thin blanket. A thin blanket is much safer to use, since the risk of suffocation is much lower than with a thicker cover.

Step 3
Dress baby appropriately. This eliminates the need for anything more than a thin baby blanket.

Step 4
Remember babies only need as much cover as adults. Avoid using too many blankets, as this will just cause overheating. It also increases the risk the baby will get caught up in the blanket.

Step 5
Tuck the blanket in at the bottom of the crib mattress and along the bottom sides. Make sure it only comes up to the baby’s chest, below the armpit. This helps keep it away from the baby’s face.

Step 6

Try using a blanket sleeper. Especially when the baby is a small infant, this is a great alternative to blankets. They are usually made of a fleece material, and have holes for the arms. The bottom part is similar to a sleeping bag, and a zipper goes all the way from the bottom to the chin, like pajamas.

Baby Animal Books

Posted by admin on Thursday Jul 15, 2010 Under kids activities

Amazing, Fuzzy, Furry Wild Baby Animals

This is a board book for very young children which contains pull out animals. It’s quite big, the page size being roughly 21 cm squared, and has ten pages. It’s made of sturdy cardboard, but the cut outs are a bit thinner. It belongs to the DK award winning ‘Touchables’ series.

Each double page spread focuses on an animal. On the left side is a photograph and a little rhyme that tells you something about the animal eg; “Zebra foals soon learn to walk and trot. And when they gallop, they go clippetty-clop!” On the page facing is pull out version of the animal which has a ‘touch-and-feel’ part, usually a bit of fur, and there are a few more bits of text and surrounding detail. Using the zebra as an example there are plant pictures, grass and the words ‘lots and lots of stripes!’ and ‘Let’s lift out this zebra foal and stroke her black and white fur.’ Behind the pull out are the words ’stripy zebra foal’. The other baby animals are; a rhino, harp seal pup, a tiger cub and a baby koala joey on its mother’s back.

Baby Care Games

Posted by admin on Thursday Jul 15, 2010 Under kids activities

Something is up with kids these days. Babies like exploring, playing and gaming a lot. Discussion of games that fit babies as they grow has taken centre stage in most homes. Parents are working hard to get give the required attention to their babies and baby care games is actually the answer.

But which games are safe for kids to play? With hundreds and thousands of baby games coming into the market these days, parents must be aware of the content that their kids watch. Share a game that you are sure is good for a baby.

The website Girl Games 4U includes numerous baby-care games.

“Terrible Triplets”
In this game, you have to take care of triplets while their mother sleeps. Each of them cries for various reasons, and you need to quickly satisfy them before Mom wakes up. One baby might need feeding while another needs burping and the third wants her teddy bear. Or one might want a bottle, while another needs a diaper changed and the third wants a pacifier. As soon as one stops crying, another will start. You can see what they want, but you’re racing the clock to give it to them. Click on each item to bring it to the baby you want to tend to. The faster you can care for all the babies without letting them cry, the higher your score.

“Baby Care Rush”
In this game, you’re a nurse who runs a busy baby-care center. Babies come in the entrance, and you have to care for them. First they have to be taken to a bed, and then you have to see what they need to make them happy. It might be a rattle or a bath or a bottle. Click on an item to move the nurse to it, and then click on the baby who needs it. Once a baby has been satisfied, you can take her out the exit door.

“Au-Pair Abryl”
You play an au pair running a baby-care center. You’ll have up to six babies to care for, and your job is to keep all of them happy and entertained. When a baby wants something, click on the item to get it, and then click on the baby to take it to him. Anything used once by a baby needs to then be thrown in the trash. You’ll be timed, and you have to keep the babies satisfied  throughout. If you’re successful, you move up to the next difficulty level.

“Nanny Nelly”
This is a game similar to “Au-Pair Abryl,” but you’re helping a nanny look after babies in her home. You’ll have up to six to care for, depending on which level you choose, and you have to give them a bottle, food or a toy or change their diaper when required, and then throw used items in the garbage.Click on an item to get it for a baby, and then click on the baby to give it to him. Your scores are based on speed, and how long the babies cry before you tend to them.

“Super Babysitter”
You play a babysitter, and you have to look after several kids. Start off by putting them on the rug, and then watch to discover their needs. You’ll be shown that a baby wants a toy, needs changing or is tired. If one baby is in the crib and another is sleepy, you’ll need to see what the first baby wants next. Click on various items to make the babysitter go to them or pick them up, then click again to show her where to go next. Speed and accuracy count. Eventually, the parents will come back for their children, and it’s time to hand the babies over.

Toys are fun for some kids, but games beat them with the exciting nature of interaction that it has. Games give babies a chance to think and play. Discussions have been carried from work places to play centers, about effects of games to babies. Games are a constructive learning process. Well, let the kids play and have fun.

Pottery Barn Baby Contest

Posted by admin on Thursday Jul 15, 2010 Under kids activities

Cute baby contests are on television, the Internet and anywhere that associates with children. Sponsoring a cute baby contest is a fun way to promote your business. A contest usually needs to be supported by a sponsoring organization or business either financially or through donations of products or services. Follow these steps to promote your business while helping others enjoy a popular event.

Recently Pottery Barn Kids has been hosting a monthly baby contest where clients submit their baby photos to enter. This is a great opportunity to get your childrens gorgeous face out there!!

How to Win a Baby Photo Contest??

Step 1:
The picture must be of high quality. Something you
took on your home camera or phone just isn’t going
to cut it. The picture that you submit should leave the judges speechless. It should jump out at them. They shouldn’t want to look at any other pictures after they see your child’s. You may need a professional photographer to do this.

Step 2:
Outdoor pictures are always a good way to go because you won’t have anything to sway the judge’s decision, like clutter in the background or even the style of your home. Make sure the lighting is good and maybe some interesting scenery in the background.

Step 3:

Pictures of kids in a grownup’s clothing are always a hit. It makes them look more mature than they are and that may give you an edge against the competition.

Step 4:
It’s always good if you can get your child to pose for the picture. A candid shot can be a good one but this should almost be a headshot for your baby.

Step 5:
Unfortunately you can’t really affect this one but I believe that girls have an advantage over boys. Girls are seen as cute and petite, while boys are seen as messy and rambunctious. This may be disadvantage in a photo contest.

Step 6:
Keep trying. If it doesn’t work out in the first contest you try, don’t give up. There are plenty of contests available.

Kids Actor Management

Posted by admin on Thursday Jul 15, 2010 Under kids activities

A child actor is defined as an actor who is under the age of 18. Laws exist to protect the best interest of child actors, and vary from state to state. These laws generally cover the amount of hours a child actor can work, the kind of environment he can be exposed to, and what stunts, if any, he is permitted to perform. Compulsory education laws state that education is not to be interrupted while the child is at work. Several options exist to ensure that a child actor’s education is not compromised and no laws are broken.

A child actor can remain enrolled in either a public of private school while pursuing an acting career. Many parents will hire a private tutor or teacher for the times when the child actor must be taken out of school and remain on a set or a stage for the majority of a day, making sure that the child does not fall behind. These teachers and tutors work on-site and can be very flexible according to daily needs and work schedules. An example of this kind of resource can be found at the On Location Education website.

A realistic educational option for child actors is homeschooling. Though still somewhat controversial, homeschooling has become very appealing to the parents of children who demonstrate exceptional talent in any area, including music, science and athletics, as well as acting. While homeschooled, child actors are able to take their schoolwork with them while working, rather than remaining restricted to one location. Parents will have a direct say in how quickly the child is learning and what the lesson plans are. Curriculums are designed specifically for the child actor’s individual needs and development, and can possibly result in accelerated and advanced learning. In addition, the flexibility of homeschooling can give child actors who have other interests outside of acting more time to pursue those as well. Programs like as the one found at the Laurel Springs website have provided many child actors with this option.

Acting is a job and as such it requires specific accomplishments, just as any career does. Becoming a kid actor is not so much about talent or looks as it is about professionalism, perseverance and patience.
