Buying clothes for a growing baby is a bit challenging for many new parents. Today, the choice of baby clothing available in the market is unlimited. There are so many types of designs and so many fabrics available in baby clothes that choosing between them seems to be an impossible task at times. However, while buying clothes for babies, you need to keep certain basic conditions in mind. They should be comfortable, pose no hazard to the baby (such as buttons that might be swallowed) and be suitable for his/her age as well. Babies grow out of their clothes quickly, so you should not buy too many clothes at a time.

* The first thing to remember when buying children’s clothing is, they must be comfortable to wear, easy to put on and above all else, washable.

* Buy clothes with elasticated waistbands and trousers or skirts with shoulder straps. This makes letting down or adjusting easier.

* Buy socks without shaped heels they can then grow with your child. Try to stick to one or two colors and brands   this way you will always have a replacement if you lose one.

* Put extra buttons on dungaree, skirt or dress straps   This way you can lengthen them as your child grows.

* Always try to buy natural fibres, rather than man made .The man made fibres don’t breathe as well as natural fibres and this can cause your child to get too hot, especially in summer.

* Consider unisex clothes. If you are buying in advance of the big day when you first become a parent, or if you’re on a budget and anticipate having more than one child, lime green and pale yellow may serve you better than pastel pink or baby blue.

* Wash clothes first. As a general rule, you should wash new clothes before dressing your baby in them. Not only does it clean them up after they’ve been hanging and handled in the stores, but it also makes them softer. And some say that washing first can help prevent skin rashes or irritation for babies with sensitive skin.

* Remember the feet. For infants young and old, keeping feet covered can be quite a task. If you go the route of using socks, this is not the time to buy in bulk. Even socks with a good amount of elasticity can slide right off. The alternative–especially good for active older infants who either pull off their socks or leave them in the dust–is to get pants or one-piece outfits with footies attached. The only caveat: They aren’t well suited for standing up or walking, since they can be slippery on hardwood floors and tile unless they have rubberized soles.

Materials

You have to be really careful when you are choosing newborn baby clothes, as well as any clothing, while we are at it. Many of the cheaper clothing out there is made of cheaper materials. That’s not always a bad thing, but it definitely comes into play regarding flame resistant materials. When doing so, instead of cutting it, which will leave some itchy remnants behind, remove the tags from the seam so that nothing will be left. Another option is to buy tagless clothes. To avoid the problem altogether, many companies have chosen to inscribe the important information, such as the brand name, size, materials, etc. directly onto the clothing itself. You can find the information in the same place as the tag, which is usually on the inside back near the neck.

Zipper Guard

Another great thing that is an amazing addition to newborn baby clothes is the zipper guard. Can you recall any time that you accidentally zippered your skin? Ouch! A zipper guard is a piece of cloth that is attached to clothing between the zipper and skin in order to protect the skin from getting caught in the zipper. Be sure to look for clothing with full-length zipper guards.

Buttons

Be cautious of buttons on baby clothing. These cute little ornaments are actually a very dangerous choking hazard. If they are on areas of the clothing that are out of your baby’s reach, be sure that they are securely fastened. (It is a good idea to check every so often as time goes on.) Ditch the clothes that have real buttons near the mouth.
