You’ve been thinking about Florida but not sure if it’s for kids. You need ideas for your best kids vacations destinations.

Does this sound like you? Then let us help you find the best kids vacations place for you. We can help you with driving or flying destinations. Long vacations, short vacations, traveling on a budget and even provide some valuable Do’s and Don’ts for your consideration when traveling with kids.

Best Vacations with Kids

Diapers? Check. Endless supply of Goldfish crackers and juice boxes? Check. Puzzles, Barbie dolls and tiny plastic dinosaurs? Check, check, check.

Any parent knows that traveling with kids is an exercise in logistical planning. The good news is many all-inclusive vacation spots now exist that strive to understand what families need — and provide it.

Tops on parents’ wish list are activities to keep Junior occupied, a plentiful and always available supply of kid-friendly food (think buffet), family-friendly sleeping arrangements and even an extra set of hands to ensure Mom and Dad get a break too.

Catering to these needs — and offering the bonus of a vacation tab that’s nailed down in advance — are all-inclusive family-oriented resorts. These establishments often feature fantastic pools, water sports and supervised kiddie clubs for the young ones, plus spas, fine dining and adult entertainment for their parents.

Deals vary, but your bill at most all-inclusive resorts includes lodging, food and drink (including alcoholic beverages), transportation to and from the resort, taxes, gratuities, non-motorized water sports, organized games and activities, kiddie clubs (though some resorts add a fee for this) and evening entertainment.

Taking advantage of these resorts lets parents spend less time thinking about where to eat and what their kids will do, and more time relaxing.

Below we’ve selected our top picks for resorts and resort companies that make time off with the kids as good as time off should feel.

Family Fun Vacations

Your fabulous family vacation begins just steps away from your hotel. Loll in the sun on dazzling white sand beaches, swim in clear Caribbean waters, play some beach tennis, pamper yourself with a beach massage or spa treatment, or get ready for some wet ‘n wild adventure offered by a multitude of water sports ranging from banana boats to jet-skis.
On and In the Water

For a glorious day out on the sea, hop aboard a luxury catamaran. Sparkling Caribbean waters, refreshing trade winds, warm tropical sun and a magnificent ever-changing island panorama complement your cruise. Relax on-deck or discover the spectacular underwater fantasy that lies beneath. Snorkel around coral reefs blazing with the bold colors of amazing marine life or explore the secrets of sunken wrecks.

A jaunt to De Palm Island, an Aruba all-inclusive getaway with a spectacular water park, is the perfect family adventure. SEA TREK is a safe once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Behold a brilliant world of sea life as you walk twenty feet below the surface in zero gravity along a 375-foot-long path. Snorkelers will love SNUBA, a fusion of snorkeling and scuba; descend to a depth of 20 feet as air is delivered through a long hose from tanks on the surface.
Creature Features

Turn your children’s Aruba vacation into a fun and learning experience with countless adventures and activities that will stimulate them, peak their curiosity and teach them about Aruba’s unique natural habitat, heritage and language. Though it may be challenging to pull them away from the beach, they will delight in the island’s “creature features.”

The Butterfly Farm is a wondrous tropical oasis inhabited by hundreds of fluttering brightly-hued specimens whirling by in their timeless dance. Kids can witness their fascinating metamorphosis from cocoons. Somewhat curious to find on a Caribbean island is the Aruba Ostrich Farm. Kids can stroke their feathers, hand-feed them, and visit the hatcheries of the world’s largest birds. Some reach a weight of 300 pounds, a height of ten feet, and a lifespan of 80 years! Maintained by donations and volunteers, the rustic nearby Donkey Sanctuary maintains, feeds and provides medical care to over fifty adorable and endangered animals; you can even adopt one!
Explore the Culture

Most resorts have special kids’ programs and some have all-day camps. Sand castle building, shell hunting tours, art classes, Papiamento language classes, and merengue dancing are just some of the activities. Nature walks are the perfect way to learn about unique flora and fauna including tropical plants, lizards, iguanas, and birds such as the twittering chuchubi and the bashful barica geel. The observation deck at the nearby Bubali Bird Sanctuary is the perfect spot to view the lush oasis that is home to eighty species of migratory birds.

Desert landscape, untamed coastline, sandy coves and interesting historical and cultural sites provide exciting off-road safari adventure. Explore the unique beauty of Aruba’s outback and natural wonders such as the secluded Natural Pool. The daring will opt for a wild drive through Arikok National Park, perhaps ending with a calm swim at Baby Beach.

Party Places for Kids

Are you looking for a great place to have a party for your child in the Fox Cities? Whether you are looking for something a little different, to pizza and play, we have it all here in the Valley.

Los Angeles Toddler+Kid Birthday Party Ideas (lots of Santa Monica)
My favorite children’s birthday parties are the ones where kids are just invited to get together and share each others’ company over some food music and silly fun. Maybe the parents come up with a simple, original creative game, an eccentric relative starts a sing-along and there’s some kind of brilliant craft using organic, biodegradable materials.

But back in reality, we don’t always have time to get creative and we definitely don’t have space in our homes to host an entire class or two of kids. Our kids have December Birthdays, and, while we’d be happy with a party in the park, we chicken out for fear of bad weather.

So we’ve pulled together a little list of fun places to have kids birthdays.

Your Kid’s Party & Playtime Headquarters

Our parties are full of bouncing, sliding, and jumping fun for kids 12 years-old and younger. You can sit back, relax and enjoy the party while we do all the set-up and clean-up. We offer a variety of party packages.

Bring your kids to Monkey Joe’s fun-filled inflatable play center! Our wall-to-wall inflatable slides, jumps, and obstacle courses will keep your kids active, happy, and healthy. Our play center is suitable for kids 12 years-old and younger. Our Mini Monkey Zone is a separate toddler play area that will keep your little ones safe and secure.
A Fun, Safe, and Active Environment

Maintaining a safe and healthy environment for your kids is our top priority. In order to eliminate up to 99.9 percent of most common germs, we sanitize all inflatable surfaces with Swisher Hygiene. We also have separate play areas for kids 2-12 years-old and kids 3 years-old and younger. Although both areas are supervised by our trained staff to ensure your kid’s safety, we strongly encourage parents to monitor their children during play.

Great Birthday Party Ideas+ Your Entertaining Flair= Best Birthday Bashes!
All you need to do is package your party with a bit of pizazz, a cup of creativity and all that jazz. Add a dash of wit, and a pinch of fun, wrap it in whimsy, and you are done.

Party Ideas – Have a Theme Party at one of these Birthday Party Places

Use one of these birthday places when you can’t have the party at home!

fun party places for kids2

fun party places for kids2

For many of us, holding a child’s birthday party at home is a daunting task. That’s why many businesses aimed at children have also become birthday places. Each party place will have birthday ideas and a pre-planned theme party package. Here is a partial list of kids party places that can be used to hold a child’s birthday party.

My children have been to many fun, successful parties that were held at some of these birthday places. From our local nature center to McDonald’s and Chuck E. Cheese, to gymnastic schools and laser tag, my kids have been to really good parties that took the pressure off of the parents.

Call the birthday party places nearest you to ask about prices, facilities, and whether they require a minimum number of guests. Some party places will let you bring in your own food and birthday cakes, while others require that all food be purchased from them. Be sure to ask about all the rules before you book a party at any of these birthday locations.

Fun Kids Treats

Posted by admin on Thursday Jun 30, 2011 Under General knowledge, holidays

Fun aquarium kid treats!!
If you are anything like me you have a love hate relationship with the bringing of snacks for school snack time. I love to create the snacks but it is hard for me to figure out what really cute, healthy-ish, lesson related snack to bring. I always like to sort of incorporate what lesson they are working on with the snack. Here are some ideas for you to use.

fun kids treats

fun kids treats

Kindergarten snacks aquarium theme. They were learning about fish and the ocean that week. We even took a field trip to a local aquarium market. This was fun to make.

First I made vanilla pudding. (The original idea was to use jello but jello and I do not get along.) I used blue and green food coloring to give it the aqua color. I spread the aqua colored pudding in my cookie sheet. A 9×13 cake pan would work for this or any serving dish with an edge. The “gravel or sand” is crushed vanilla cookies.

Then I ever so careful placed Swedish fish, shark fruit snacks, and gummy worms throughout the aquarium scene. Now I thought I was finished. My great friend, who happens to be a 3rd grade teacher, saw my snack and said, “It’s really great. How is the teacher supposed to serve it though? Scrape it out of there with a spoon?” Hmmm….right. So I went back to work and filled the bottom of clear plastic cups with the “sand” (vanilla cookies) and spooned aqua pudding on top.

Then I filled the mini aquariums with the candy Swedish fish and shark fruit snacks. You really could just do that and the effect would be really cute. I just wanted a neat little aquarium scene to go with the cups. The teacher used the larger aquarium snack scene for seconds. It was a big hit.

Easter Treats for Kids:
Special Easter Kids’ Recipes!
With these Easter treats for kids, you get the best of both worlds. Why? Because while most Easter kids recipes are things that kids love to eat, they don’t always allow for kids help out with the preparation. But these recipes do!
Each one of the fun Easter treats recipes here is simple –and fun– enough to make that the kids will have a blast helping out. More than simple snacks, these recipes are also sort of Easter crafts for children, too!

I’m absolutely positive that you and your kiddos will be over-the-moon about making these recipes together. But I’ve also got lots of other fun ideas for treats to make with your kids right here at Easter Central, including:
Run-Away Rabbit Racecar Snack Cakes

fun kids treats1

fun kids treats1

Of all my recipes for Easter treats for kids, this one is probably my favorite. Why? Because they’re even more fun to put together than they are to eat! If your kids are old enough, they can do the whole thing themselves. Got younger ones? They’ll have a blast helping out.

There’s also no cooking involved… it’s all about assembling and decorating these adorable little Rabbit Racecars.

The ingredients list below is more of a suggestion than a real requirement. Get creative with the elements of this Easter treat for kids, and have fun with it!

Baking with Kids

When you teach your children to bake, they learn more than how to make delicious treats. Baking helps improve math and reading skills, encourages teamwork and teaches children about the “science of food”. But more importantly, baking together builds fond memories and creates traditions that last a lifetime.

In “Treats For Kids” you’ll find scrumptious kid-friendly recipes. In this Baking Tips Section for “Treats for Kids” you’ll also find more useful techniques and activities that will help children have a safe, fun and rewarding time in the kitchen.

Follow these easy steps to ensure a fun and safe learning experience with your “young baker” every time.

Fun Vacations For Kids

Posted by admin on Thursday Jun 30, 2011 Under holidays

Fun Vacations by William Stillman

fun vacations for kids3

fun vacations for kids3

Some families value travel and vacation more than others do. Those that travel often may do so because they are distanced from family or relatives, or it is family tradition to travel at certain times or to certain places, or for myriad other reasons. Other families prefer to stay close to home in order to make day trips, or to gather for picnics, fairs, and sports events. No matter how your family prioritizes travel and vacation, you will greatly enhance your child’s ability to enjoy being away from home (no matter the duration) through careful planning.

As before, whenever possible, partner with your child in planning a vacation trip. Your child may dread the thought of leaving home to stay anywhere other than surroundings that are comfortable and familiar. (If your child is in her late teens or of a responsible age and is interested in other things, is her staying home, separate from any travel plans, an option in your family if she voices this desire?) Her anticipation of a trip away will be heightened if there is a way to tie the trip to her most passionate interests. For example, if she is fascinated by cartoon animation, ensure that a trip to a Disney theme park includes an opportunity to observe animators at work. If she is absorbed in learning about the mechanics of railway transportation, can you take a train to your destination instead of flying or traveling by car? If the folklore of a certain foreign culture is of interest, it stands to follow that a trip abroad would be desirable. Explore the available entertainment options in the home state of her favorite actress, inventor, or president. If your child is passionate about certain architecture, determine your flexibility in making a modification in your travel plans to set aside a day for such sightseeing. Building upon passions in this way will turn a potentially anxious situation into something to look forward to.

All inclusive family resort vacations and kids’ programs for all weather fun.

fun vacations for kids2

fun vacations for kids2

So what if it rains. Our family resort vacations and children’s programs are virtually weatherproof from late May to September. The 9 kids and teen programs (each with its own separate indoor recreational facilities) continue full steam, rain or shine. And for adults, after a leisurely breakfast, you might try slipping out of your raincoat into something more comfortable and going back to bed. There’s also the indoor heated pool for water aerobics or laps, and yoga and kickboxing. The Field House gym has indoor volleyball, basketball, bounce house, bungee jumping, Fitness Center and Arts & Crafts studio. We also take guests to a nearby sports complex for indoor tennis, racquetball, squash and handball. At The Tyler Place we believe nothing quite beats a drizzly day for pirate ships and treasure hunts, puddle hopping and fishing.
The classic family vacation.

fun vacations for kids

fun vacations for kids

This is the vacation where the kids get to cover Dad with sand – and you won’t have to pay beach fees for the privilege.

This could be the vacation where the kids finally win the family miniature golf tournament. Where you’ll see how a beach can become a movie theatre, a concert hall, or a campfire site.

Because this time, you’re bringing the entire family for a classic beach vacation in Ocean City, Maryland.

In OC, you can play on our guarded beaches, and see who can spot the first dolphin. Or stroll together down that three-mile bazaar/arcade/theatre/buffet, otherwise known as the boardwalk (rated one of the best in America).

During the summer, you’ll find free family activities six nights a week. Including movies and concerts on the beach. Even a parents-and-kids Beach Olympics.

fun vacations for kids1

fun vacations for kids1

Maybe this will be the vacation where you head out on the water for a dolphin cruise. Cast a line from a fishing boat. Or marvel at the famous wild horses of Assateague, just a few miles down the road.

On this vacation, you can dress up or dress down to dine out. From haute cuisine to seafood shacks and all-you-can-eat buffets, we’ve got something for every taste and budget.

But most of all, on this vacation, you’ll rediscover just how much fun it is to be together. Because from arcades to amusement parks, from refreshing salt-waterbreezes to fresh salt-water taffy, from beach to boardwalk, OC is all about family. Your family.

So let’s get Started Planning your Best Kids Vacations
Do you know what type of vacationer you and your kids are? Are you looking for:

A relaxing kids vacation
A City Vacation with Kids
An Adventure Vacation
A Combination Vacation
A Tropical Vacation

(We go over these types in detail in our Family Vacations page which you can read by clicking the “family vacations” tab in the upper left hand corner of this page.)

You may be wondering if “Kids” and “Best Vacation” can really go in the same sentence. Let me assure you they can, if you let us help you in planning your best kids vacations.

You will want to get all family members involved in the vacation planning; this will eliminate the “Ok, I’ll go but I won”t be happy about it” attitude. Have each family member make a list of places they would like to go or things they would like to do. If your kids cannot come up with ideas, here are some ideas to help you get started:

Water Park
Mini-golf
Go-Karts
Jet Skiing or Para Sailing
Roller Coasters
Horseback Riding
Swimming
Amusement Parks
Paintball
Laser tag
Sporting events (Major league football, baseball, basketball etc)
Zoo

Bring the family together and have each member share out loud there ideas and why they would want to go there and how important it is to them. You will probably get the usual Disneyland/Disneyworld suggestions. If each family member tells why, in detail, they want to go they may be successful in swaying others.

You may need to reduce the list to the top 3 and you can do this by having everyone vote at the end of the presentations.

When your best kids vacations list is reduce to 3 possibilities, there are few things you need to consider along the planning trail:

You will need to decide how much you are willing to spend on this vacation.
Sign up for our Free newsletter, The Vacationer, it will help you with planning tips and we include the latest travel specials to help you have the best kids vacations while staying within budget!
Will you be driving or flying? Think about how long your children can focus on something:

For example, can they truly sit in car for a 4-6 hours a day without world war III breaking out? If you are traveling by car be sure to checkout our great games, snack ideas and more on our car travel tips page.
Or a recent experience this editor had in going on a flying vacation for 8 days and the kids were ready to go home after 4 days.
Maybe it’s time to purchase that portable DVD player you have been talking about. It’s a great way to keep the kids entertained on the sometimes tedious part of traveling while on vacation.
If you decide to fly keep in mind it may be shorter to get there by plane but you do have to arrive two hours ahead of time required for check-in and security reasons, the rental car/transportation to deal with once you get there etc. By all means, check out our air travel tips page.
Remember the age of your kids is an important factor in choosing your best kids vacations destinations.
Younger kids have fun just going to a hotel with a pool and jumping on the hotel beds, everything else is just gravy to them.
If you have teenagers you will need some action or adventure in you vacation planning.
If you have both young kids and teenagers you may need to split up during the day and that is okay, you don’t have to do everything together to have the best kids vacations. Small kids enjoy watching Daddy and big Brother/Sister go on the roller coaster and trying to pick them out. Teenagers may want to drop by the arcade while little brother rides Dumbo but all the family members will enjoy a break by the pool in the afternoon, especially if the pool has a water slide!

So now you know where you and the kids might want to go on vacation, here are a few recommended best kids vacations destinations and some suggestions from our visitors

Fun Field Trips For Kids

Fun Field Trips for Kids

fun field trips for kids 1

fun field trips for kids 1

Field trips can be informative, educational and fun all at the same time. It’s even better if the field trip falls simultaneously with a certain subject they are studying in school. Kids look forward to these special days out of school, and even though the trip may require a day off from normal studies, the opportunity will allow them to learn even more. Field trips provide that hands-on experience kids can’t get from a book; they provide a new learning environment, which may be key to reaching those students who struggle with book work.
Historical Field Trips

There are so many places to find history when it comes to field trips. First on the list may be history museums, which kids often find fascinating. Many museums have dinosaur displays, or Egyptian history exhibits featuring mummies.

You can check your local area, but usually there are historical places in every community. Your local historical society should be able to point you to interesting sites, such as national parks, state parks, battlefields and famous houses or dwellings.

If your school is in a rural area, it might be worth it to take a day trip to a bigger city where there might be more opportunities for learning. The state capitol may be a wonderful place to visit, giving students the opportunity to sit in on a house session or meet their local representatives or even higher authorities. Often, there are tours of the buildings around the state capitol as well

Educational Field Trip Ideas:

Visit a greenhouse in the spring.  They often give tours and let the children plant their own potted flower for a minimal charge.

Tour a fish hatchery. (submitted by Maggie D. via email)

Visit a farm.  Some offer seasonal activities, especially during spring and fall.

Set up a tour at a local grocery store.

Visit a bakery.

Visit a local bread making company.

Set up a pizza restaurant tour.  Many do this and it is a fun and interactive experience.  All those that I have been to even let the children make their own pizza!

If you have a childrens hospital in your area, see if they offer tours.

Visit an art store.  Observe the many kinds of pencils, markers, paint and other art supplies.  After the visit have fun back home or at school creating your own work of art.

Visit a bird sanctuary, nature area, pond or park and observe where birds live.

Take a shape walk through a neighborhood and observe the various kinds of buildings, houses, apartments, signs, etc.  Look for different shapes and colors.

Visit a farmers market and purchase some fresh fruits and vegetables that can be used to create a snack together.

Visit the Fire Station.

Visit a Pet Store.
Visit a Nursing Home.  We have often visited nursing homes on or near Halloween wearing cute little costumes to bring cheer to the residents and also during the Christmas season to sing and share homemade Christmas cards (and candy canes or cookies if the staff allows).

Visit the zoo in the winter for something different.

Go see a childrens theater production.  Middle schools and High Schools sometimes put on childrens plays.

Visit the apple orchard and go apple picking.

Pick your own seasonal produce.  Check out PickYourOwn.org for great ideas and locations year round.

Go to the pumpkin patch and pick your own pumpkin.

Go on a horse drawn sleigh ride in the winter.

Visit a nature center.

Visit a planetarium.

Visit the museum.

Contact your city maintenance department to see if you can go take a look at all the big working trucks (street sweepers, gravel trucks, snow plows, etc.).

Take a tour of the Post Office.

Visit the library and / or a children’s book store for a special story time.
